Our three-year-old daughter Allie is a total daddy’s girl. My wife never seemed to mind, until one evening when she confronted me.
Her: “You have to move to your sister’s house for a few weeks and not tell Allie. This is getting out of hand.”
I thought she was joking. How could I abandon my 3-year-old daughter, who can barely spend a day without hugging me?
Me: “If you’re worried about Allie, maybe you could join a mommy-and-me class?”
Her: “I don’t have time for that. You need to leave and don’t tell her why, just go. It’ll force her to bond with me. I grew up without a dad, and that made me and my mother closer. She will be just fine.”
I refused. I couldn’t abandon my little girl just because my wife felt jealous. After countless arguments, we agreed I could tell Allie where I was going and stay at a friend’s house for a week. A few days in, missing my daughter terribly, I decided to surprise her with a Happy Meal.
